The NY Times Headline on September 12, 2001

September 12, 2019

By 9/12, the day after America was attacked, I still hadn’t heard from my son Brennan who was in the Middle East, without a cell phone. He finally emailed later that day from Egypt and my relief was palpable. He told me he was fine and asked, “What kind of people would do such a thing—or to find such a thing good or necessary?”
Then he added this: “As word spreads of the attacks, I continue to be approached by tons of Egyptians, Bedouin, Sudanese and Westerners alike, who know I’m American and want to genuinely offer their sympathies. It’s humbling to feel the kindness of these strangers, yet my thoughts are now with people at home.”
Many of you know that I write about by sons’– Brennan (and Colin’s) travels and how much I worried about their safety, especially on this day, 18 years ago. But, often mixed with my anxiety was pride in the knowledge my sons gained from places and people who differed from them. In the end, their experiences solidified my belief in the importance of travel..
THESE BOYS ARE KILLING ME is full of life altering encounters with people of different races, religions, customs and beliefs. If you’d like to read more about Brennan and Colin’s interactions with people in 34 countries on 3 continents, the ebook version is being released In less than 3 weeks, on October 9, for only $1.00. The $1.00 price will only last for 24 to 48 hours.
